I did a post a couple of months ago(April 2016) where I talked about some issues with space groups. While I was at the 2016 Revit Technology Conference is Scottsdale Arizona this week I ran into Aaron Maller and he told me that he had investigated the issue and found that the root of the issue was face based component on the same face within a group is when some of the errors occur. It seems that when you have multiple components on the same face Revit creates a reference plane for each component and when you mirror the component it mirrors the reference plane. When Revit mirrors the reference plane sometimes the face based components flip to the opposite side of the face they are attached to. Revit 2017 may have fixed this issue, since I have not had as much of this happen in Revit 2017
