Commonly at any meeting of Design Technologists one of the favorite pieces of software to rag on is Sketch-up (come on don’t deny it). There are all sorts of nasty nicknames that go with it too. I don’t think it’s that anyone truly hates Sketch-up. I was once a major power-user of Sketch-up myself and it was a nice, quick, facile modeling program that created decent images. Of course, that’s the crux of the program, quick, facile and completely unstructured and doesn’t convert to anything useful.
Though if you think for a moment what was I describing in the last sentence? Was I describing Sketch-up? Well of course you were Robert, the topic didn’t change in the paragraph and you were clearly discussing Sketch-up earlier (the beauty of English, but that is for another day). Grammatically I was certainly discussing Sketch-up, but I could have just as easily been describing e-mail! We do rag on e-mail some, but never a much as Sketch-up; and I have to seriously wonder…
