Florida-based 3D measurement and scanner manufacturer FARO has announced the release of SCENE7.0 and given details of the new features available in the latest version of its 3D document creation package.

The biggest addition to this software is something called “onsite registration.” Previous versions of SCENE would require the operator to save point cloud data from a job on to an SD card and then transfer that data to a workstation before registering the scans. Registering is the process of integrating the cloud data into a cohesive and usable set of data points.

Now, with onsite registration, users can transmit their data wirelessly to an onsite computer and have the cloud data registered in real time, thus removing several steps from the old process and giving users more time to do what matters…measure stuff! And they can now rest assured that when they get back to the office, they’ll be able to work with their data immediately rather than having to mess around with aligning points and so on.

In addition, the new SCENE7.0 allows users to preview their scans in the field when using a FARO Focus scanner. So they can get an idea of how complete their data is and perform additional scans while onsite, rather than getting back to their office and noticing big patches of scan data missing.
