Designed by Jacques Ferrier, the Aqualagon for Villages Nature has outdoor pools covering a total area of 4,800 square meters, making it the largest outdoor pool in Europe. It consumes no energy as it relies on geothermal energy for heating.
The building’s shape was designed based on a model of Japanese origami emerging from the ground, and its wood/metal structure and glass facades are all completely irregular. This made designing it especially challenging.
According to the designers, this project wouldn’t have been possible without BIM and Revit software. It helped them solve many geometrical problems that couldn’t have solved in 2D. BIM also helped the firm solve complex challenges of hiding ducts and conduits for water treatment, air treatment, and fire safety throughout the building to produce a more elegant, innovative design.
