Over the last couple of years I’ve been seeing a misunderstanding of the use of General notes. I refer to the US National CAD Standard (NCS) for how to use General Notes. In the NCS, General Notes are categorized to provide clear and organized information across different aspects of a project. Here are the main types of general notes:
- General Notes:
- These notes apply to the entire project and are relevant to all disciplines and sheets within the drawing set. The purpose of these General Notes is to include general instructions, guidelines, and requirements that are applicable to the entire project. This can include safety instructions, general construction practices, and project-wide standards.
- Example: “All dimensions are in millimeters unless otherwise noted.”
- These General notes are typically found on the G-Series of drawings
- Code information is typically seen on the G-series

- These notes are specific to a particular design discipline, such as…
