It’s always nice to see the beauty round us rather than the depressing news on the Internet and televisions. This last Sunday I escaped the city and drove into the Columbia Gorge about 80 miles East of Portland Oregon looking for less clouds and some spring wildflowers. I went hiking, looking at the wildflowers, and also flying a UAS (drone or flying camera) as I am a FAA Part 107 UAS pilot. Patience pays off as you have several rules to abide by when flying such as flying safe, not exceeding 400 feet, not over people, within line of sight as well as my own rules to not annoy people or ruin their time in nature by the buzzing of a close by drone. I went to the area around Rowena Crest and Tom McCall Nature Preserve.
Columbia Gorge Wildflower Status:
Lower elevations should start booming in the next week to two weeks.
Higher elevations on Coyote Wall and Dog Mountain may be 3 weeks before those wildflowers start to pop.
It was so amazingly green and Columbia Gorge’ous.
